Biography

The starting point

Born in Barcelona, I completed my violin studies with the highest grades in Barcelona Conservatory, studied baroque violin in Toulouse Conservatory and played professionally in baroque orchestras. I began my vocal training in Barcelona with Maestro Jorge Sirena and took lessons with Richard Levitt, David Mason and Rosa Domínguez.

While living in Germany, a successful Bachwoche Stuttgart in 2013 made me one of the current Helmuth Rilling’s Alto soloists, singing the Passions, Cantatas and Mass in b minor in concert halls like: Moscow Tchaikovsky’s, Hong Kong City Hall, Weimar Stadtkirche and Leipzig Thomaskirche among others. Conductor Sigiswald Kuijken also invited me to perform J.S.Bach repertoire on tour in Concertgebouw Amsterdam and Japan. I’m one of the principal soloists in Kay Johannsen‘s Ensemble BachVokal Stuttgart and I keep being invited by conductors like Martin Gester and Jordi Savall. My debut with the Spanish National Orchestra to sing l’Atlantida by Manuel de Falla was the beginning of my operatic career. In that occasion I was invited by one of my mentors, conductor Josep Pons.

Among my recent plans

Debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu as Ascanio in the great Terry Gilliam’s Benvenuto Cellini production. At the Savonlinna Festival as Enrichetta de Francia, I sing in Elektra together with Spanish National Orch. conducted by David Afkham and with Jean-Claude Malgoire at the Paris Théâtre des Champs Élysées singing G.Rossini. Siebel in Gounod’s Faust is also one of my roles at Teatro Campoamor, the funny Cofieta in Iphigenia en Tracia by José de Nebra at the Madrid’s Teatro de la Zarzuela and Eduige on my debut at Teatro Real in G.F. Handel’s Rodelinda under Ivor Bolton‘s conducting. Opéra de Lyon conducted by Stefano Montanari and Théâtre de Caen with Emmanuelle Haïm invite me to perform Eduige in two different Rodelinda productions. I sing Beethoven’s 9th symphony, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel with whom I also sing at the Peralada Festival next to Mahler.Ch.Orchestra. With wonderful harp player Manuel Vilas, I perform spanish secular music from 17th century on recital. I recently recorded with the BBC Symphony Orchestra the role of Pepa in Goyescas by Enrique Granados, for the record label Harmonia Mundi.

Forthcoming
performances

Due to the covid-19 crisis, half of David McVicar’s production of La Clemenza di Tito had to be cancelled at Liceu where I was singing Annio’s role, as well as Die Passagierin at Teatro Real. Fortunately, a new begining happens in July at the superb Santa María Cathedral in Burgos under the baton of Jordi Savall singing Medieval music from the spanish jewel Codex Las Huelgas. J.S.Bach will always be my « meeting point » singing  Cantatas and the Mass in b minor with Kay Johannsen in Stuttgart and at the Barcelona Palau de la Música Catalana with Xavier Puig. I’ll also perform a new composition for solo mezzo voice by wonderful Francesc Prat at Liceu. Finally a full G.F.Handel recital next to tenor Roger Padullés  will happen in February 2021 and in May-June I’ll be singing the leading role in the new opera Tránsito composed by Jesús Torres as a tribute to the exiled to Mexico during 1936-39 spanish Civil War; this brand new composition will be at the great Madrid’s  Matadero hall on a Teatro Real’s production.
